Your
son will soon be receiving (if he hasn't already) a packet of information on the
Cub Scout Trails End Fall Popcorn Sale. This is the only "selling" fundraiser
our Pack will participate in during this program year. Here's some information
about the sale.
Reasons for the Sale:
- Popcorn Sales provides funding to support local scouting efforts at three
levels.
- It provides funds to run the Green Mountain Council (approximately 33% of
the sale price).
- It provides funding to run pack 714 programming (approximately
10% of the
sale price).
- Pack 714 has established a program for boys to earn funds to attend Pack
and Council sponsored camping programs through the Popcorn Allocation Fund (5% of the sale price), to benefit our boys directly. Boys also qualify for
prizes for the popcorn that they sell!
(See
details of the Popcorn Sales Policy below for details on fund
allocations.)

Sales Policy
Popcorn sales are sponsored by the Boy Scouts of
America each year. Of the money raised from the sales, approximately 1/3 goes to
the Pack, 1/3 to the Green Mountain Council and 1/3 to Trails End (Pop Corn
Supplier).
This is the major fundraising event for pack 714. Money from
popcorn sales is also pack 714's primary source of funds. Other sources of
income for pack 714 include Dues, and Volunteer Contributions from adult
leaders.
These funds are used to run the many Pack activities. A
partial list of uses includes:
- Awards at Den and Pack Meetings
- Blue and Gold Banquet
- Summer Activities
- Supplies for crafts and activities
- Pinewood Derby Cars
- Picnics
During the program year (Sept 1 - Aug 31), 20% of each
boy's gross popcorn sales may be applied toward the personal registration fees
of any camping program sponsored by pack 714 or the Green Mountain Council. A
partial list of approved activities includes:
- Cub Scout Day Camp
- Parent/Pal Weekend Camp
- Cub Scout Resident Camp
- WEBELOS Resident Camp
- WEBELOS Weekend (Union Canal District; held at Troop 74 Campsite)
Cub Scouts joining Boy
Scout Troop 714 (also sponsored by Hedding United Methodist Church) may have their
funds transferred to the Troop 714 account. Funds raised by Cub Scouts leaving
pack 714 or joining another Pack or Troop will revert to pack 714.
The
Pack Popcorn Chairman and Treasurer will maintain a ledger of each boy's
account, and keep track of appropriate charges to these funds.
